Wilfred was the youngest son of George and Maria Waumsley. In 1911 he was aged 14, living at 3 Jubilee Villas (16 Vine Street) with his brother Horace aged 20 and his sister Annie aged 22. The eldest boy George had left home and his father George died in 1910 at a London hospital. George was a carpenter by trade and the family had formerly lived at 4 Southview Terrace on New Cross Road.

After Wilfred left school he worked as a fitter at Blackstones. On June 21st 1916 he enlisted with the Royal Flying Corps as a mechanic. He transferred to the Royal Air Force on April 1st 1918 and was demobbed on March 8th 1919. His brother Horace enlisted with the Lincolnshire regiment and died on October 13th 1915 in France.

In September 1920 Wilfred married Dora Dexter in Stamford, they had two children – Joyce born in 1927 and Frank born in 1927.

Wilfred died in June 1962.
