Edward Clifford Wyldes

In 1911 Edward was 11 years old. He was born in Stamford on 10 November 1900. His parents were Frank and Selina Wyldes. His family including 4 other siblings were living at 3 Adelaide Street. His father was a clerk in a motor car engineering company. His elder brother, Robert, also worked as an apprentice in the same company. Edward and his elder sister and younger brother were at school. The family had been living at 1 West End Villas in 1901 before moving to Adelaide Street. When he left school he became a moulder.

His elder brother Robert had enlisted in 1913. Edward followed him into the army in June 1918. He was declared rather ‘light weight’ at his medical and of A4 fitness. Private Edward Wyldes (85753) joined the 5th South Staffordshire Regiment Infantry, later transferring to the 4th Hampshires when he was deployed to Ireland. His theatre of war was ‘Home Service’. He was demobbed in May 1919. His military conduct sheet declared that his behaviour was always correct.

In 1922 he married Ethel M. Mickley in Kettering. He died in Kettering in 1970.
