10th January 2016 Thomas Herbert born on April 10th 1899 was the son of Thomas and Jane Burton. In 1901 he was living with his parents and sister Florence born in 1897 at 10 Rock Road. By 1911 Thomas was a widower and was living at 6 Cooch’s Court with Florence now 14 and Mabel 10. Thomas Herbert attested with the Lincolnshire 2/4 Regiment on April 9th 1917 giving his address as 2 Balloon Yard, Blackfriars Street. He went to Germany in April 1917 and was wounded and missing in Germany in December 1917. His father and sister wrote to enquire of his whereabouts as they had not heard from him. He sent a postcard which stated that he was a Prisoner of War and had been captured in Cambria and imprisoned at Cassell.
