Clifford was born in 1900, he was the son of John and Annie Carpenter. He had two younger sisters in 1911 – Ivy 10 and Dorothy 9. They lived at 19 Stanley Street.

His father John was a bricklayer and tThey had moved here from 2 Bridgwater Terrace in Cemetery Road.

Clifford joined the RAF in 1918, he married Elizabeth Short in 1921 and died in Leicester in 1970.
