6th December 2015 Walter Dixon In 1911 Walter was living with his parents John and Francis Dixon at 15a Austin Street. In 1901 he had lived at 3 Austin Friars. He had two brothers Albert born in 1900 and Joseph born in 1902 and a sister Gladys born in 1904. His father was employed as a woodchopper at the timber yard. He enlisted in the Lincolnshire regiment 4th battalion in October 1914 soon after the outbreak of war. He was physically fit and tall compared to others( 5ft 8ins). He was 17 years 9 months old and served in England until 1917. He went to France in February 1917 with the British Expeditionary Force. He was wounded and suffered a back injury in October 1918 and demobbed in February 1919. He had an illegitimate child in 1918 but married the mother Dorothy Tilley in Uppingham in 1919 after he was demobbed. He worked at Wittering airfield after the war and died in Leicester in 1976. Albert Dixon Albert was born at Kings Cliffe in July 1899. He was too young to serve in the war. He married Jane Musson in December 1923 and died in Stamford in June 1966.
