Herbert Fountain

Herbert, born in 1900 Cecil, was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Fountain, Thomas was an Iron Merchant and the family lived at 1 Emlyn Street, a substantial house with eight rooms. In 1911 he had four brothers William aged 19, Cecil aged 16, John aged 6 and Ernest aged 2.

He enlisted with the Leicester Regiment in 1917. He married Ethel Rebecca Scalehorn in 1931 and died in Gosberton near Spalding, in 1967.

In 1911 when he was 11, Herbert (known as Bert) gained a scholarship to Stamford School (Stamford Mercury).
He owned a Chemist's shop in Gosberton from the mid-1930s and became reasonably wealthy. He had no children and died in Gosberton, in 1967, having been pre-deceased by his wife a few years earlier.
