8th December 2015 Fred Green In 1911 Fred, born in May 1899, was living with his parents Frederick and Julia, three brothers, Arthur aged 20, James 15 and Jack 9 and one sister Eva aged 14 at 21 Austin Street. Frederick was a labourer in a timber yard. Fred was a baker’s assistant. The two eldest boys, Arthur and James served in the war with the 4th Lincolnshire. Fred enlisted with 4th Lincolnshires but was discharged as he was under age. They had moved to 8 St Peter’s Street by 1914. James Green James was born in 1896 and in 1911 he was working as a grocer’s errand boy. He enlisted in 1916 and served with the 4th Lincolnshire Regiment. In 1916 he was in hospital suffering from poison gas, he also lost the sight in one eye.
