James William Hensby was born in 1895 in Bourne. His parents were James and Sarah (nee Luff) Hensby. His father was a blacksmith for Blackstones and James was an apprentice iron turner. In 1911 the family was living at 18 Gas Street in Stamford. Florence was his surviving younger sister, his two other siblings had died in Bourne. In 1901 the family were living at 41 Abbey Road, Bourne. His parents died in Stamford – father in 1937 and mother in 1938.
No military records for James have been found. James died in 1920 in Stamford.
