Harold John Hill

Harold was born in Stamford on 9 September 1899 and lived with his father John, mother Emma Gertrude and older sister Edith Margaret. His father was a hairdresser and in 1901 the family lived in his business premises at 15/16 High Street St Martins. Sadly before 1911, his father died and Harold and Edith, together with their widowed mother, moved into a flat over 13 High Street Street, St. Martin’s. His mother worked as a nurse and Harold was still at school.

T here is no war record for Harold and he did not marry until the summer of 1939 (spouse Freda Barrow). Presumably he was the main breadwinner for his mother, who never married again. He died in February 1957 in Nottinghamshire.
