Peter Murray, born in 1896, was the son of James and Elizabeth Murray.

His father James had been a telegraphist and now ran the Wheatsheaf pub at 14 All Saints Street.

Peter was an apprentice at Hayes coachbuilders.
He enlisted in 1914 and served with the Royal Berkshires and was promoted to Lieutenant.
