Casterton Road

Casterton Road is a continuation from Scotgate of the Great North Road leading to Newark, York and eventually Scotland.

The Clock House (facing in the picture) dates from 1839 and beyond this there are few houses built before the late 19th Century.

From then on the road was lined with terraces and semi-detached villas.

Some of those there today in 2015 were not yet built in 1911.

On the whole it was a desirable area inhabited by the middle classes.
