Doughty Street Doughty Street, Stamford This was a street of new houses in 1911 – fourteen semi-detached, five room houses were occupied. Presumably four more were still under construction because today (2015) it can be seen that these 18 houses (9 blocks) on the east side of the street were quite clearly built in a different style to the rest. At that time the row would have looked out over open land. Almost all the occupants worked at the Agricultural Implement Works and were skilled or semi-skilled workers, not labourers. They were machinists, pattern makers and fitters During WW I scrub land nearby was divided between the tenants of Doughty Street so that each family could grow their own food.
