Foundry Road

Foundry Road has changed as much as any street in Stamford since 1911. With the demise of the Hit & Miss public house in 2014, the buildings below are about the only ones that the 10 of our Boys who lived here in 1911 might recognise. West End Villas had been built in 1900. There were probably workshops at the southern end as there are today but except for a few houses bordering Empingham Road the northern end of the road has been completely rebuilt.

There were a lot of families living here in 1911. There were over two dozen under 11 year olds and about a dozen older teenagers and teenage girls as well as the Boys.
