Torkington Street Area

There had been quarries in this area and it was waste land before Stamford’s open fields were enclosed in 1875. Development of 4 and 5 room houses was begun in the 1880s and continued into the 20th Century.

In 1911 they would have been very new houses and would have required a higher rent than the average in the town.
