8th December 2015 Charles Leslie Plowman– 49 Scotgate Charles Leslie was born in Peterborough at the end of 1899 but had moved to Stamford before he was two years old and grew up in the town. His father, John Tom Plowman, was a groom. In 1901 they were living at 23 Broad St. In 1911 Charles Leslie was the eldest of 5 children – all his siblings were born in Stamford – and the family were living at 49 Scotgate. He was probably too young to have been called up, although many of those he was at school with wouldn’t have been so lucky. After the war he married Florence Whittaker in 1920 and they 5 children, all registered in the Stamford area, between 1921 and 1935. The youngest child would have been under 2 years when Charles Leslie died in 1937.
