8th December 2015 John was born in Stamford in 1897 and in 1911 he was living at 4 Tenter Lane with his widowed father, John Edward, and his sister Annie May (12) and his younger brother Amos (10). His father was born in Colsterworth, with all the children being born in Stamford. Father was a labourer in a foundry yard and John William (14) was a labourer in a brickyard. In 1901 the family were living at 60 North Street. John’s mother was Harriet E. Rippin (nee Groom) who was also born in Stamford and his father was then a groom in a livery stable. His mother died in Stamford in 1908. No war records have been located. John William married Florence B Spiers in Stamford in 1922. They had two sons – Dennis born in Stamford in 1923 and Arthur born in Grantham in 1926. Gis wife Florence died in Peterborough in 1968 and John William died in Stamford in 1978.
