John Stratton was the youngest child of William and Sarah (née Riley) of Tallington. They had married in 1887 when William was 78yrs old and Sarah 25yrs. By 1901 they had 3 children and were on Parish Relief. William died in 1903 when John was only 4yrs old.

The only information found for him is an entry in ‘Stamford in the Great War’ which says he was a Private in the R A S C and was killed. There is also a J Stratton on St Martin’s War Memorial and one on the Gordon Boys’ Memorial.

‘Stamford in the Great War’ also lists a J W Stratton who was not killed – it may in fact be John William who was killed and is buried at Etaples Cemetery. The John above was John Henry.
