6th December 2015 James was born in 1900 in Stamford. In 1911 he was living at 48 St Leonard’s Street with his parents Mark Edward and Florence (nee Martin) Toon and his younger siblings Victoria May (8) and Ernest Leslie (5). The whole family were born in Stamford. His father was an agricultural implement fitter. In 1901 one year old James was living with his parents at 10 Priory Buildings (between Brazenose Lane and Brownlow Terrace, perhaps) Official records of James’s involvement in the 1914-18 War have not been located. However ’Stamford and the Great War’ records that he mobilised in 1917 into the 51st Sherwood Foresters’ Regiment. James died in Stamford in 1931, when his father died in 1950, his mother was living at 19 Doughty Street . This was stated in the National Probate record His mother, Florence, died in 1962, she was then living at 58 Doughty Street. Her younger son Ernest Leslie was her beneficiary and at this time he was a fitter.
