8th December 2015 Harry Walker Harry Walker was born in Norwich in 1897, he was the only child of Henry and Alice Emma Walker. Henry, born in South Shields, County Durham was a sawmill worker, who moved around the country. Whilst living in East Anglia he married for the second time. Alice Emma, a native of Suffolk, was older than Henry, who was 35 when he married. Alice Emma was 42 and was probably surprised to find herself pregnant with Harry. In 1901 they were living in Peterborough at 32 Orchard Street, Fletton, but by 1911 they had moved to Stamford to live at 10 Queen’s Walk. Harry was then working in a sawmill, possibly the same place as his father. In 1914 he enlisted in the army and served with the 4th Lincolnshire Regiment as a Private (1790). Posted to France he earned a 1914-15 star. He was wounded early in 1916, seriously enough to be discharged on March 22nd 1916, although no details of his injuries have been found. He was not fit enough to return to work in the sawmill so went to work for Burrough’s Adding Machine Co Ltd. No record of marriage or death has been traced.
