Charles Robert Blades

Charles Robert, born in 1895, was the only child of Robert and Caroline Blades. Robert was a printer compositor working on a newspaper. In 1901 they lived at 2 All Saints Place and in 1911 they had moved to 1 Coronation Villas, 15 Vine Street.

In 1915 Charles was working as a grocer’s traveller and clerk when he enlisted in the 13th Battalion (Home Service), Lincolnshire regiment,  later transferring to the Lancashire regiment. He did not serve abroad as he suffered from neurasthenia and was transferred to the Reserves in 1917. He was also diagnosed with anaemia and flat feet, he said that he suffered from anaemia and a dilated heart before he enlisted.

He returned to live with his parents at 15 Vine Street after the war and when he died in 1940 he left his money to his mother Caroline.
