Cyril Ernest Dodman

In 1911, Cyril aged 15, was living with his parents Walter and Sarah and sister Norah Evelyn aged 13 at 6 All Saints’ Street. His father had a leather and grinding shop. Walter had previously worked as a printer, compositor living at 41 St Leonard’s Street. Cyril was a solicitor’s clerk working for Mr Atter.

He enlisted in the Territorials 4th Lincolnshire regiment in July 1913 when he was 17. At the outbreak of war in August 1914 he transferred to the 5th Lincolnshire regiment.

He was posted to France in 1915 serving with the North Midland Division in France, Flanders and Belgium. During his time there he suffered from neurasthenia ( a stress related problem). He received the Star for his service in France and the Victory and British medals.

In 1923 he married Mabel Boyce and died in Barsford in Nottingham in March 1968.
