8th December 2015 ALBERT LOWE – Borderville Cottages Albert Lowe was born in Doncaster on 5th January 1901. His father John T. Lowe was born in Alconbury, Huntingdonshire in 1852 and his mother Mary Ann was born in Misterton, Nottinghamshire in 1874. John and Mary lived at 5 Arbitration Street, Doncaster, Yorkshire and John T. worked on the railway as a shunter. When Albert was born in 1901 Joseph Priest, aged 29, John Lowe’s son-in-law, was also living with the family with his three-year-old son George. Perhaps John had a daughter by a previous marriage and she had died? (Joseph Priest’s parents, William and Harriet Priest lived next-door at 7 Arbitration Street. Both were born in Misterton, Nottinghamshire so perhaps Mary Ann was their daughter?) In 1911 Albert was living with his paternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth Lowe in Borderville Cottages, Ryhall Road, Stamford. John and Elizabeth, married in 1869, were both born in Alconbury, Huntingdonshire, and John was a horsekeeper at Stamford Infirmary. Their granddaughter Louie, aged 19, was also living with them and a boarder from Kings Cliffe, Arthur Roberts, aged 21. There was another son, George, born 1877 who left home between 1901 and 1911. Albert, still at school in 1911, is not recorded as serving in WW I, not even in the latter years when he would have been of an age to enlist. His death was registered in Stamford in December 1980.
