8th December 2015 George was 13 years old in 1911 – a year younger than his brother Edward. He was born in Wigginton, Staffordshire. His parents were John George and Gertrude (nee Davenport) Lowe. In 1911 he was living at 20 St George’s Square in Stamford. George was the third eldest of 5 siblings. They were all at home except for his older sister Dorothy. She was living with her aunt (Eliza Davenport) in Ashby de la Zouch. Their father was an auctioneer/ estate agent. He was an auctioneer/valuer in the 1901 Census when the family was living at 8 Colehill, Tamworth, Staffordshire. The siblings’ birthplace was then stated as Comberford, Staffordshire. Private George Davenport (M/272966) served in the Royal Army Service Corps. He gained the British and Victory Medals. ( WWI Service and Medal Records) His father had returned to the Tamworth area because his death in September 1914 was registered there. His mother died in Ashby de la Zouch (her birthplace) in 1937. Their time in Stamford was quite short. His mother left her ‘her effects’ to George Davenport Lowe (Company Director) (National Probate Record 1937 ). George died in December 1983 in Torbay, Devon
