Arthur in 1911 was 14, he was born in Stamford in 1897. His parents were Isaac and Charlotte Emma (nee Richardson) Marvell. His father was born in Market Harborough. and his mother was born in Manchester. The family was living at 45 St Leonard’s Street. His parents had been married 32 years. He was the ninth of 11 children. At this time his father was a labourer in a timber yard. Arthur was an errand boy at the Co-operative Store. Only 4 siblings are at home in 1911.

In 1901 the family were already living at 45 St Leonard’s Street. Seven children were still living at home sharing 3 rooms. Father was working in the timber yard.

Before 1901 the family were living in Maltings Yard south of the Welland in Stamford Baron – the brewing area.

Private Arthur Albert Marvell served in the 19th Notts & Derby Regiment (45511) and then the Suffolk Regiment (68558). This is recorded In ‘WW1 Service Medals and Awards Roll’.

He married Lilian Bloom in Stepney, Middlesex (London) . They had five 5 sons all born in Stamford. Their second son was born and died in 1923.

Lilian died in 1982 and Arthur died in 1992.
