Charles William Sargeant – 20a Foundry Road

Charles’ parents both came from Pickworth in Rutland and his father, also Charles, was a lime worker. They had 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls, all born in Stamford. Charles was the eldest born in 1898 and in 1911 was at school.
He enlisted in March 1917 just before his 19th birthday and served with the South Wales Borderers in Salonika and Turkey. At the end of the War he continued to serve in the Army of the Black Sea.
In 1925 Charles married Gladys E. Chapman and they had a son, Richard in June 1929. With the exception of one sister, all the family seem to have stayed locally.

Charles died on 2nd February 1951 – His address was 17 Casterton Road.
