8th December 2015 Thomas Wade was born on 11 April 1896. He was one of five children, all born in the village of Tixover, Northamptonshire. Father Charlie was born not far away in South Luffenham but mother Mary Ann came from Berkshire. Thomas, his elder brother Harry, born 1893 and elder sister Alice Mary born 1894 moved with their parents to 66 High Street, Ketton before 1901. One older child was then working away from home and one child had died. Father Charlie worked as a blacksmith in Ketton but by 1911 the family had moved again, to Stamford and Charlie was working at Martin’s engineering works as a toolsmith. The family lived in 12 Alexandra Terrace and Thomas was an errand boy. No service record has been found for Thomas. Although the family had left Alexandra Terrace before the end of WW I, Thomas returned to Stamford where he married Hilda E Betts of Adelaide Street in the summer of 1926. Thomas’ death was registered in Rutland in June, 1987.
