Albert was born in July 1898 in Stamford, he was the son of Charles and Louisa. Charles was born in Ryhall and was a postman. In 1911 the family lived at 58 Queens Street and Albert had one brother Reginald aged 10.

In December 1915 he enlisted with the 7th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (reg number 20626) when he was 17.
Only ten months later he was killed on August 18th at the Battle of the Somme. His grave is at Thiepval, Picardy France.

Fortunately, his brother Reginald, born in 1901, was too young to have served in the war.
