8th December 2015 Walter Edward Barnett Walter Barnett was the son of Albert and Eliza Barnett. He was born in July 1899. In 1911 he was living in White Swan Yard a four roomed house in Scotgate with his parents and sister Evelyn aged 12, Alberta and Bertie twins aged nine. Brother Norman aged six and Gladys aged four. His father was a blacksmith at the Foundry. He enlisted in Grantham with the Northumberland Fusiliers, 1st 5th Battalion and was killed in France on April 12th 1918. He was probably killed at the battle of Hazebrook and is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial which is a memorial for men missing in action. His name is not on the Stamford Town memorial.
