George Bussingham

George was the son of Charles and Annie Bussingham and he was born in Leighton in 1896. Charles was a dairyman and cow keeper and  George worked for a butcher.

In 1911 the family lived at Emlyn’s House,  Emlyn’s Fields. He had three brothers John aged 14, Walter 17, Arthur 5 months and 4 sisters – Florence 19, Winnie 12, Doris 4 and Edith 2. The family came from Leighton in Huntingdonshire and only the three youngest were born in Stamford.

George served in the Royal Army Service Corps and received the British and Victory medals.

He married Louise Hippey in Uppingham in 1927 and died in Stamford in 1973.

Amendments and Addenda

In September 1917 ‘Jack’ was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. He served in Ireland and France and had been wounded.
