John Edmund Bussingham

John was the son of Charles and Annie Bussingham and he was born in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire in April 1897. Charles was a dairyman and cow keeper and  in 1911 the family lived at Emlyn’s House,  Emlyn’s Fields.

He had three brothers – Walter 17, George aged 14,  Arthur 5 months and also 4 sisters – Florence 19, Winnie 12, Doris 4 and Edith 2. The family came from Leighton in Huntingdonshire and only the three youngest were born in Stamford.

John served in the Lincolnshire regiment, then the King’s Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) regiment and finally the Royal Fusiliers as a Corporal.

He married Millicent Knights in Stamford in 1935 and he died in 1977 in Stamford.

Amendments and Addenda

In September 1917 ‘Jack’ was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. He served in Ireland and France and had been wounded.
