Arthur William Eames

Arthur was born on January 13th 1898. He was the son of Harry, a wood sawyer and Alice. They had moved here from Watford. He had 2 brothers Laurence Henry aged 12 and Harry 3 and 3 sisters Olive Mary 10, Gladys Ethel 6 and Ivy 2

He enlisted soon after the outbreak of war on October 3rd 1914 in the 4th Lincolnshire regiment and went to France in September 1917. He was 5ft 5ins tall and claimed that he was 17 years 10 months when he was really only 16 years and 8 months. He suffered gunshot wounds in his right thigh and lost his right eye and was considered to have 70% disability.

He was discharged in February 19th with a silver badge and the King’s certificate to show why he was no longer in the army. He married Emma Stockdale in 1923 and died in Market Harborough in 1963.

Laurence Henry Eames

Laurence Henry was born in Watford in 1899. He enlisted with the 15th Sherwood Foresters battalion – Infantry Division in August 1918.

He was demobbed in March 1919. He died in Peterborough in 1978.
