8th December 2015 Leonard was born in Stamford in 1897 and in 1911 he was 13 and living with his family at 15 Cornstall Buildings off St Leonard’s Street. His parents were James Richard and Elizabeth Jane (nee Francis) Feetham. His father was born in Lutton, Lincolnshire and mother was born in Thurlby. Eight of their children (4 girls and 4 boys) were still living at home. They were all born in Stamford. Leonard was their eldest son with Frances May (17) was the eldest daughter. Their father was employed as a painter of haymaking machines at an agricultural engineering works. Frances was an apprentice dressmaker, Leonard and his younger brother James Richard (12) were still at school. In 1901 the family had been living in Aldgate, Ketton, Rutland. Their father was then an insurance agent. ‘Stamford and the Great War‘ records that a Private L. Feetham was mobilised into the Lincolnshire Regiment in 1915 but no more precise detailed information has been located. In 1921 Leonard married Frances M Rockey in Guildford Surrey and they had 3 daughters. His parents continued to live in Stamford and his father died in 1942 and his mother in 1953. Leonard himself died in Haringey, London in December 1983 aged 86.
