James was Leonard’s younger brother and was born in 1899 in Ketton, Rutland. In 1911 he was 12 years old and like Leonard he was attending school.

He was mobilised into the 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment in 1918. This is recorded in ‘Stamford and the Great War’, and from an ‘Ancestry.co.uk’ family tree, information of James’ death has been found. He died of hydrophobia, the older name for rabies, in Poona, India on 17th July 1922.

There is a memorial in St Nicholas Church, Lincoln, it is headed by the following –

The church contains the chapel of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment within which, on an engraved brass plaque, which was formerly in the garrison church at Lucknow, are the names of the officers, non-commissioned officers and men of the 2nd. Battalion the Lincolnshire Regiment who died while the battalion was stationed at Poona, Dinapore, and Lucknow from 1919 to 1928
