Frank Featherstone was born in 1897 and lived firstly at 2 Tinwell Villas and then the family moved to 11 All Saints Place. His father was a butcher (the shop remained a butcher’s until the 1990’s). He had occupied the premises from 1870. He had a sister Gladys.

He served in the Machine Gun Corps of the Lincs Regiment. There is no military record only a Victory medal record. The Machine Gun Corps was formed in 1915 for the more effective use of guns on the Western Front. His father sold the shop in 1915 and moved to Hampshire during the war and set up a butchery business in Christchurch. He died in 1919 and Frank took over the business. Frank married Rosina Schmidt in 1920. He died in 1967.

Lance Corporal Featherstone of the 1/4 Lincolns, only son of Mr and Mrs Walter Featherstone, late of Stamford, has been awarded the Military medal.
