Cecil Green

Cecil Green was born in Stamford in 1897 and was the son of Thomas and Annie Green. In 1911 they were living at 25 Vine Street with a sister Hilda aged 16. Thomas Green was a school porter. In 1901 they lived at 14 Elm Street.

Cecil was a motor engine fitter when he enlisted in March 1917. He was taller than average 5ft 10ins but only weighed 115lbs. Cecil joined the Motor Transport, Royal Army Service Corps. He was judged a good motor engine fitter.

In 1918 he spent 19 days in hospital with influenza and was demobbed in October 1919.
