Francis Joseph Royce

Francis (Frank) was born in Stamford on 9 January 1895 and lived with his parents John Charles and Lizzie and a large number of siblings (11 in all although 3 died in infancy). His younger brother Percy as served in WW I.

He was unemployed in 1911 but father was an agent for one of the Stamford breweries and the family lived in a large house, 53 High Street, St Martin’s, employing at least one domestic servant. In WW I Francis enlisted in London as Private 1861 in the 4th Lincolnshire Regiment but no service record has been found for him. As he was aged between 18 and 41 in August 1915 he would have been conscripted into the armed forces although he may have volunteered before then.

He survived the war and married Florence Morris in Stamford in 1924. He is recorded as dying in Derbyshire in December 1970.
