Laurence born in October 1895 was the son of Slater and May Savage. He had 8 siblings and was the 6th son. His father Slater, born in Pinchbeck, was a gardener. They lived at Brosley Cottages, Cemetery Road (now Radcliffe Road) .

When he enlisted in the 4th Lincs in 1915 he gave his occupation as a printer, working for Potters. His brother Ernest joined the Royal Marines.

Laurence was killed on October 13th 1915 only a week after joining the front line. He is remembered on the Loos Memorial France. His brother Ernest served with the Royal Marines
