George Chapman Wilson – 1 Foundry Road

George Wilson was the son of Marion (Minnie) Wilson, a hotel cook who was born in Glasgow. George was born in Casterton in Jnauary 1896 and in 1901 aged 5 years he and his mother were living in a small cottage on Rock Road. She was supposedly married about 1895 but her husband is not living with them in either 1901 or 1911. George was her only child.

George attended the Endowed School on St Peter’s Hill winning a prize for Mensuration and the Form Prize in 1910. By 1911 he had been apprenticed to a printer.
He was recruited in August 1914 and must have served abroad in the early years of the war as he was awarded the 1914/15 Star. He became a Quarter Master Sergeant in the 1/4 Lincs Regiment – in this post he would have been responsible for supplies to the battalion.

A George Chapman Wilson with a matching birth date died in Leeds in June 1983.
