8th December 2015 Frederick Joe Hudson Frederick was born in 1896 at Littleport, Cambridgeshire and moved around East Anglia with father James ( a journeyman baker), mother Selina and a growing number of siblings until they settled in a bakers’ shop at 21 Water Street, Stamford. Aged 15 in 1911, Fred was an apprentice reporter then one evening in October 1915 he attended an intensive recruitment campaign in the Drill Hall in Stamford. Encouraged by Colour Sergeant Naylor he volunteered for the army but there is no service record for him. Possibly he did not pass the medical test? His two younger brothers Walter and Alfred have detailed military records surviving. That he did not serve is perhaps indicated by his marriage in 1916 to Hilda Kirby of St Ives, Huntingdonshire. He died in Stamford in December 1970.
