8th December 2015 Leslie Potter, born in December 1899, was the son of John Edward Cartwright Potter and his wife Hannah. John Cartwright was a master printer and the printing works were in Gas lane. In 1901 he was living with his parents, brother George and sister Mabel at 58 High Street and by 1911 they were living at 24 St Mary’s Street. 13 Barn Hill, Stamford In 1918 Leslie enlisted with 28th London Officers Cadet Regiment. He would not be allowed to serve overseas until he was 19. He was demobbed in February 1919 having served for one year and 26 days. His father had moved to the Nuns (now part of the High School) in 1918. Leslie married Helen Constance Blackstone in April 1933 and lived at 13 Barn Hill. He was in partnership with his father in the Printing Company. He died in September 1973.
