William Robert Sharpe

In 1901 William Robert born in April 1895 was living with his family at 6a Cemetery Road. He was the son of Thomas and Harriet Ellen. Thomas was listed as a cowkeeper and milk seller. In 1911 his father was a farmer and dairyman, living at 97 Cemetery Road. He had a brother Frank aged 17 and 3 sisters Margaret Jane aged 19 , Jessica Louisa 13, Charlotte Ellen 10 and Winifred Kate 6.

The farm house had 9 rooms with out-buildings and surrounding fields. Margaret Jane was helping in the dairy and William on the farm. Frank was still at school. Frank enlisted with the Lincolnshire regiment and was a 2nd Lieutenant.

William did not serve in the army as he was working on the farm. The farmhouse had nine rooms with several out-buildings and the fields stretched down to Casterton Road. They were all demolished and modern housing erected around 2005.

William married Gladys Savery in Ripple, Worcestershire on September 18th 1919 and died in Stamford on February 18th 1974.

Amendments and Addenda

In April 1918 William Robert’s brother Frank was reported missing. Although he did return from the War, this would have been a worrying time for the family.
