George Taylor

George was born in Castle Bytham, the son of John & Sarah Taylor. He had 2 elder brothers who were born in Pinchbeck and a younger brother who was born in Ryhall where the family were living in 1901 at Tally Ho Cottage. His father was an Agricultural Implement Fitter. In 1911, not only George but his 10yr old brother and 7yr old sister were in the Children’s Home. Their mother Sarah was also in the workhouse and it is not clear if she was there as an inmate or a patient.

In 1912, George went with Percy Munns to the Gordon Boys’ Home and had also made good progress after a year.

It has been impossible to trace any military records. There are 2 George Taylors listed in ‘Stamford & the Great War’ both of whom were killed and one is listed on the Stamford War Memorial as a gunner. There is also a G Taylor on the Gordon Boy’s Home Memorial.
